We had a blast of winter yesterday and today as a cold front came though - it suppose to last a couple more days. You can see the snow accumulation in the image above. It got down to -11 Celsius. I bagged a few branches of one hazelnut tree to see if that would make a difference - I have a feeling that -5 maybe a line for killing the pollinated flowers. This will be an interesting test - time will tell.
I get the sense that our spring is just a bit late (by a couple of weeks) for hazelnuts. I know on a given year it is possible because we have gotten nuts before but I fear there may be more years when there won’t be nuts than years where there are nuts. Oh well, that is fine, the foliage is still stunning in the Fall and provides variation to the plants in the yard.
